Mental health care for your individual needs
Are you experiencing emotional numbness, actively avoiding thoughts and feelings related to a traumatic memory that triggers flashbacks, disrupts your life, induces negative mood changes, hampers concentration, and leads to poor coping habits?
Understanding Trauma-Related Disorders
Trauma-related disorders are a group of mental health conditions that can develop after exposure to a traumatic event. These events can be extremely stressful, overwhelming, and often life-threatening or involve serious injury or violence. The trauma can be physical or emotional, and can occur either as a single event or as repeated experiences.
Commonly experienced traumatic events include:
- Physical assault, including sexual assault.
- Combat or military service.
- Natural disasters.
- Serious accidents.
- Sudden or unexpected death of a loved one.
- Childhood abuse or neglect.
Common Types of Trauma-Related Disorders:
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD):
- Symptoms: Intrusive memories, flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance, negative changes in mood, and heightened arousal.
- Acute stress disorder (ASD):
- Symptoms: Similar to PTSD but occurs within three days to four weeks after the trauma.
- Adjustment Disorders with Trauma:
- Symptoms: Emotional and behavioral difficulties following exposure to a stressor, impacting daily functioning.
- Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD):
- Symptoms: Difficulty forming and maintaining emotional bonds, often due to early life trauma or neglect.
- Disinhibited Social Engagement Disorder (DSED):
- Symptoms: Indiscriminate sociability, lack of social boundaries, and diminished fear of strangers, often associated with early trauma.
